Training and Racing 21 December - 28 December 2004 Tuesday 21 December - 6:30pm - Tennis Centre (the water is back on for a hot shower) This week I'll be mostly..........running at a consistent pace. Aim to set off at 6.40 ish for the first mile (warm up), then running 6.30 - 6.20 for the rest, certainly no quicker than 6.10s. This week I'll most certainly not be................doing 4 miles at 7+ min miles, followed by 6 miles at break neck speed, interspersed with random 1/2 mile sprint reps. If my heart rate monitor shows 180, as it did last week, at any point, I will almost certainly implode, cluck like a chicken, and complete the run in the gymnastic crab position. Thursday 23 December - 6:00 pm - Nottingham Tennis Centre 7-8M, starting steady, finishing quick. Saturday 25 December, Christmas Day Merry Christmas and I hope Santa brings you fast shoes for next year. Sunday 26 December, Boxing Day Pictures maybe? Aviator or House of Flying Daggers, sno

Business as usual this Tuesday; subject to my foot having recovered sufficiently. During Papplewick at the top of Sand Hill I trod on a tree root and it pushed my foot back painfully. Cicuit Training - every Wednesday

Circuit training is getting established with the small core of regulars appreciating the programme. More regulars are still needed. Making circuit training part of the weekly training routine improves performance by training muscle groups that do not get much benefit from mileage or efforts sessions and helps to balance up fitness between different parts of the body. Because of this it helps prevent running injuries. This is of particular concern at the moment as there are a number of runners associated with the bloggers training groups suffering from long term injuries. Don't let it happen to you! Circuit training is held at Noel St Leisure Centre 7pm - 8pm Cost GBP2.90 (2.65 with Nottingham City Leisure card). Located very near Shipstone St Tram stop and the Lion Moseley Street.

Circuit Training Update

On Wednesday 7th, Noel Street Leisure Centre circuits recommenced. Kathy the instructor who I recommended as very good a few weeks ago has returned - in one piece and as punishing as she was before. Apparantly she has merely been on holiday; the person who suffered the mishap was apparantly the stand in when she was away; such is communication from Leisure Centre staff! So I can stongly recommend this session to complement the running efforts. Due to the gap in continuity there were only 2 of us there so we need support to get Kathy's very excellent session viable and well established. I don't need that amount of individual tuition from such a knowledgable teacher as it hurts too much! Please get your butts there - it will only enhance your running performances over a period of time. 7pm - 8pm Wednesday's Cost £2.95 (30 p off with City Leisure card) adjacent to Noel Street Tram stop and the Lion Moseley Street.

Geoff's Group - Tuesday 12th October

Bamford Sheepdog Trial Fell Race: 31 May 2004

Nottinghamshire athletes had a great day out at the Bamford Sheepdog Trial Fell Race on Bank Holiday Monday. It was a hot and sunny day. The race suited road runners, having a fast leg out for about 2.5 miles and a fast decent from Win Hill (900ft ascent in no time at all!). It was Ben and Terry's first fell race, Ben after doing 17m yesterday and Terry after spending too much time in a traffic jam at Chatsworth! 2 Bill Speake 32:56 10 Gary McMahon 35:37 4V 25 Ben Bennett 37:54 67 Terry Norris-Hunt 44:21 35V
