Farewell

Nottingham City Harriers was the name adopted by a group of runners at the end of 2003 who, upon resignation from a local athletics club, set up their own independent training sessions.

The numbers have dwindled over the years and traveling to training venues at rush hour has got ever more difficult with worsening traffic conditions. So it has been decided to end the informal group from 17th January 2018, the remaining individuals continuing in a private capacity.

Many thanks to the runners who have supported these sessions over the years but we hope to still see some of you from time to time in the future.

Mike got his clothes back and Paul lost the lot I think. We didn't catch the scrotes.

Training and Racing 21 December - 28 December 2004
Tuesday 21 December - 6:30pm - Tennis Centre (the water is back on for a hot shower)
This week I'll be mostly..........running at a consistent pace.

Aim to set off at 6.40 ish for the first mile (warm up), then running 6.30 - 6.20 for the rest, certainly no quicker than 6.10s.

This week I'll most certainly not be................doing 4 miles at 7+ min miles, followed by 6 miles at break neck speed, interspersed with random 1/2 mile sprint reps. If my heart rate monitor shows 180, as it did last week, at any point, I will almost certainly implode, cluck like a chicken, and complete the run in the gymnastic crab position.

Thursday 23 December - 6:00 pm - Nottingham Tennis Centre

Cicuit Training - every Wednesday

Circuit training is getting established with the small core of regulars appreciating the programme. More regulars are still needed.

Making circuit training part of the weekly training routine improves performance by training muscle groups that do not get much benefit from mileage or efforts sessions and helps to balance up fitness between different parts of the body. Because of this it helps prevent running injuries.

This is of particular concern at the moment as there are a number of runners associated with the bloggers training groups suffering from long term injuries. Don't let it happen to you!

Circuit training is held at Noel St Leisure Centre 7pm - 8pm Cost GBP2.90 (2.65 with Nottingham City Leisure card). Located very near Shipstone St Tram stop and the Lion Moseley Street.

Tuesday 19th October - Geoff's Group

This will be an approx. 9 miles fartlek but refinements are being made to the routes all the time.

For those not in the know about the two groups; as a rough rule of thumb this group is for slower paced runners very roughly 40 to 50 mins 10K , 65 - 70 mins for 10m 90 - 105 mins for half marathon and who would like to improve.

If any slower paced runners feel this is still to fast for them, please note a vacancy exists for anyone who will lead slower runners on a regular basis starting at the same time as the rest of us. Any volunteers are most welcome though initially you will need to bring your own slower runners to kick start it.

All new runners who fit the bill are more than welcome; no obligation to join any club at any time. Just turn up!

6.30pm Nottingham Tennis Centre - meet in foyer / bar area a few mins. before.

Circuit Training - Latest

Bronte Way, Lancashire to Yorkshire

Every finisher gets a bottle of beer! £5 to enter, a free coach to the start, a bag van, soup and a roll, free entry to the country park and a superbly organised event. Fell Runners do it again!
We ran 8.5 miles through historic Bronte country, starting at Ferndean Manor, past Wuthering Heights to the Bronte Parsonage to finish on the cobbled streets of Haworth. The whole race (one way) was into a strong East wind. I managed 7th, which I am pleased with! The British Fell Champ won. Results here in a couple of days.

Circuit Training Update

On Wednesday 7th, Noel Street Leisure Centre circuits recommenced. Kathy the instructor who I recommended as very good a few weeks ago has returned - in one piece and as punishing as she was before.

Apparantly she has merely been on holiday; the person who suffered the mishap was apparantly the stand in when she was away; such is communication from Leisure Centre staff!

So I can stongly recommend this session to complement the running efforts. Due to the gap in continuity there were only 2 of us there so we need support to get Kathy's very excellent session viable and well established. I don't need that amount of individual tuition from such a knowledgable teacher as it hurts too much!

Please get your butts there - it will only enhance your running performances over a period of time.

7pm - 8pm Wednesday's Cost £2.95 (30 p off with City Leisure card) adjacent to Noel Street Tram stop and the Lion Moseley Street.

Geoff's Group - Tuesday 12th October

This will be an approx. 9 miles fartlek but a variant on last weeks route.

Geoff's Group - 6.30pm Tuesday - Tennis Centre

This will be a 9 miles fartlek.

If any one volunteers we will shout it from the rooftops as well as circulate by electronic means.

The Great GR20 Bed Race

Ben and Gary are in hot and sunny Bastia, Corse after the great GR20 Bed Race. This is an ultra endurance event comprising sleep deprivation, nasal challenges and long hours marching over incredibly rough terrain.

The rules of the race are that the first one to the refuge for the next day gets the best bed and the last gets no bed. Runners regularly start the event at 5am. You will be gald to hear that we succeeded in sleeping soundly every night.
