Geoff's Group 6.30pm Tuesday 2nd January and on

Happy New Year everyone! With those riddled with an extra pound or two (weight that it) and feeling faintly guilty then don't forget the fartlek efforts from the Tennis Centre. All are welcome to the post training eating and socialising in the Cricketers afterwards (to put it all back on of course). Also for exercising those parts that running cannot reach there is a good circuit training at Noel Street Leisure Centre (usual charges) 7pm - 8pm on Wednesday evenings. Then more convivial company in the Lion afterwards. Be there or be round. Enquiries geoff.j@ntlworld.com

Bronte Way runs through the most stunningly beautiful country from Lancashire (God's own country) to Yorkshire passing the Bronte Falls, Vicarage and the site of Wuthering Heights. You can see from the picture that this water belongs to Yorkshire. I passed this many times on my training runs from home and it proved to be a good toilet stop. The run is fast and fairly flat on stone tracks with two minor climbs, the final descent into Haworth is hugh and the last 500m is steep up hill on cobbles. And finishes off with a free bottle of Timothy Taylors and pie and peas.

Last of the Summer League - Holme Pierrepont, Nottingham

(Photo: David Keal) Rob putting the effort in at Holme Pierrepont Summer League. After a brief meet in the Cricks, the following has been decided... The plan to Christmas is to do 10*300m efforts on Thursday night at the University Campus. This will be up the hill to the Trent Building. After Christmas we head off to the track. We may rotate efforts on Tuesday night between, 1 - 1.5 mile efforts, tempo runs (15 mins - 30 mins) and shorter efforts. Wednesday is a popular night for the mid-week long run; 16 miles. We are going to Nice for the 17 June 2007 Ironman from Thur - Mon, hiring a flat (with a pool), flying from Birmingham or Luton. It will involve road biking and Tuna Nicoise.

I love running and it can't get better than this! Yesterday during a fast descent after Lord Elliott on Snowdon I hit the ground like a speared duck. Broke my jaw and mangled the shoulder I broke in April. (I've since found a number of other interesting bits - some of it hillside I took home!) A small price to pay for sharing a bivi with four (young) concerned women for 2 hours. Having every whim acted upon without question. Nearly getting a helicopter ride. (Regular updates were received about where it was in various parts of Wales, obviously it was homing in on us by landmark). Having a ride in the engine of a mountain-train whilst the driver of thirty-years explained how dull the job could be. Same sheep apparently. Eating a curry through sealed lips, drinking copious amounts of beer on drugs. And the best bits, relying on friends..Simon did a cracking job of marshalling resources and taking over (had plenty of practice) and I'm now glued, zapped, poked and prodded from

Great Kinder Beer Barrel Challenge by Anna McCormack on 13 September 2004 The history of the event In 1999, the unthinkable happened in the isolated village of Edale in the heart of the Peak District. The popular Nags Head inn ran out of ale. Fortified by a pint or three, the locals came up with numerous ways of rectifying the situation (none of which involved relocating to one of the other nearby pubs!). The most popular solution was for a group to walk over the high moor land of Kinder Scout to the Snake Pass Inn to bring back a full 44kg barrel. Although there is arguably some sense in this – it is only 4.5 miles over the top as the crow flies, as opposed to 17.5 miles around by road – their addled brains had overlooked the strenuous 1000ft climbs and precipitous descents at each end and the featureless peat bogs in the middle! The disbelieving landlord jokingly wagered 100 pints of free beer to the group should they manage it, and thus is responsible for the birth of the arduous te

Summer League at Worksop

Hi All The 4th road race is week WEDS 12TH JULY at WORKSOP (approx 5.5m but certainly under 6m) in Clumber Park, great venue & course (no daft hills, this time) Usual 7.15pm start Leave Nottingham north on the A614 until Ollerton roundabout (approx 13 miles), take the 2nd left onto the A616 until you reach a mini roundabout (further 3 miles), turn right here and go straight on at the next mini roundabout (which is almost next to the 1st one) and onto the B6034 which takes you towards Worksop (another 5 miles). Approaching Worksop there is a left turn which would lead you down a steep hill to Worksop itself, dont take this turn, go straight on and take the next RIGHT and into the School and race venue (400m further on) rough map attached (Takes about 35-40 minutes from Redhill centre) Latest road race results & a diverse selection of what else we have all been up to recently are now uploaded at http://www.redhillroadrunners.com See you all there kevin
